Oct. 6: South Pacific

Okay, can I be honest and say that the last 24 hours have been hell? Sorry that it spilled into today's show. My announcing tracks got out-of-order (Pauolo Szot is NOT Mandy Patinkin!!!), nobody looked at my playlist when choosing the music for Jim's lovely interview with David Pittsinger a few minutes before (of ALL the Ezio Pinza songs they had to pick the same one?!) and I couldn't get my formatter to work. I think I'll crawl into a hole now....

Here's the information of what at least was supposed to play today, just not as pretty as I'd like. Audio on PRX

janean, thank you for playing south pacific songs, which are some of the most gorgeous, ever. i love the original cast recording, but also adored some of the newer voices.

i risked running down my battery as i was listening with the car parked after arriving at my destination, so did not hear the entire program.

if you could recommend one favorite s.p. album, which would it be? i'd appreciate your opinion, as i'm gonna ask for this for xmas. thanks, dianne

A favorite? Hard to say, each has wonderful performances. But to get ONE, I'd have to say it's the Carnegie Hall Concert with Reba McEntire, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Jason Danieley, and Lillias White. There's a DVD of that presentation from PBS's Great Performances - I haven't watched it yet but I plan to when life calms down a little. I love the voices, the interpretations, and the dialogue between the songs.
And you can hear that Matinee show again on PRX.org! Follow the link at the top of the list, or click the link in the upper right side of my Matinee main page. Thanks so much!
